Do you have a Dog Boarding Licence & insurance?

Yes, The Dog Hitch is licensed by Bournemouth Borough Council (Licence Number: 143073) and is insured by Cliverton for Public Liability and Care, Custody and Control.

Are all dogs suitable to stay at The Dog Hitch?

The Dog Hitch is only suitable for friendly family dogs. I do not accept:

What if my dog causes any damage in your house?

If your dog causes any damage to my home whatsoever, any costs must be reimbursed & your dog may have to be removed.

How far ahead do I have to book?

As far ahead as possible as I can get very busy at times. I’m happy to take last minute bookings if I have availability but only for existing customers. Please note that bookings are only provisional until I have met you & your dog. First time holiday boarders will also need to spend a day with me before I can accept a booking (a special rate applies to this). This is to ensure that your dog will get along with my pack of boarders & my own 2 dogs.

Can we come and visit before committing to a booking?

I always advise that you and your dog come to see me before you make a booking. You have to be happy that this is the right place for your dog.

Are your charges per 24 hours?

I charge by the calendar date and not by the 24 hours. If you return from your holiday early and decide to collect your dog before the due date there is no refund of payment.

How do I pay for my dog’s booking?

Can I drop my dog off at any time?

But strictly by appointment. If you require a time outside of these hours, please ask as I may be able to help. First time boarders I advise to arrive by lunchtime to enable your dog to settle in.

What if I am delayed and I’m late back?

Ring me as soon as possible to explain and make changes to collection arrangements. If I am full, it may be necessary for you to arrange for someone else to collect your dog. If you arrive a day late full fees will be charged.

I am worried my dog will not settle?

If you feel your dog will become very anxious away from you please discuss with me before hand. It maybe that more than one trial stay is recommended well before your holiday to enable your dog to feel happy staying here.

My dog isn’t neutered will you be able to take it?

I can only accept spayed females & castrated males.

Do you accept puppies?

I don’t accept puppies due to the extra care they need and the small amount of exercise they are able to have. I currently do two walks of around an hour’s duration which is too much for a puppy so I prefer to only take puppies over the age of 12 months. However if your puppy is over 6 months old, I may be able to help if you are happy for your dog to go on walks of this duration.

How many dogs do you look after?

I am licensed to care for 7 dogs including my own two dogs

Why do you need an emergency contact number?

I require a contact name and number in case of emergency. Someone who would collect your dog if not suitable for boarding and / or make any veterinary decision should the need arise.

Will my dog be allowed off lead?

I am happy to let your dog off lead but only with written permission from you. Your dog will only be allowed off lead when I am happy that he/she will return when called. Written permission does not guarantee that your dog will be allowed off lead.

Does my dog need to be vaccinated?

Your dog must be up to date with all its annual vaccinations and kennel cough as this is part of the licensing conditions set out by Bournemouth Borough Council. I will need to see your dogs' vaccination card to confirm these have been done. Please leave the vaccination card with me for the duration of the board. Your dog must also be wormed and flea treated before being boarded.

Will you be able to administer my dog’s medication?

I am happy to administer most medication, injections excepted. Please ask for a medication form.

What happens if my dog is ill while I am away?

If necessary, your dog will be taken directly to either your own Vet, providing it is within reasonable travelling distance or if not, to my local Vet. Costs incurred by The Dog Hitch will be reclaimed from you on your return. You or your emergency contact will be contacted at the first opportunity to discuss what has happened and keep you updated of your dog's progress. Please advise your vet that I will be taking care of your dog in your absence & if possible, arrange for any vets fees to paid by you on your return.

What happens if you can’t cope with my dog?

I will contact you to let you know what the problem is & it may be that you will need to come & collect your dog or arrange for someone to collect him. If I cannot contact you or your given emergency contact, your dog will be moved to kennels. There will be no refund of any fees paid to me & any fees charged by the kennels will be payable by you.

Where will my dog sleep at night?

All dogs are separated at night and sleep in their own rooms. Dogs are not allowed upstairs.
